Happy 18th B-day Momo
Hi Momo! This is to you. Have a nice B-day party. And don’t eat that cake all by yourself!
Hi Momo! This is to you. Have a nice B-day party. And don’t eat that cake all by yourself!
And just before Momo’s 18th Birthday I’ll show you some reasons why to love her. Just watch these clips from “Momo ok” DVD filmed in Okinawa beachside and make your own list of “Why I like/love Momo”. Even better if you post that list of yours here! Sure you do it.
Momo was so proud when she introduced her black acoustic guitar with a heart shaped soundhole to her fan audience some time ago. She also brought that cute guitar with her to the second Berryz Kobo Fanclub Solo Even. I don’t know what are Momo’s guitar playing skills today but at that solo event she was still the absolute beginner. But that fact didn’t stop her to amuse cheering and singing fans. It is so endearing to see Momo playing Kero Kero song with only one rattling chord and singing together with her fans. By the way, I think Maasa is better than Momo as it comes for playing guitar.
As we all Buono! fans know guitar is not the only instrument Momo is learning to play these days. She is “the drummer” in Buono! And also with drums she has still long way to go untill we can seriously call her The Drummer. But I have a sense that she could be a quite good drummer if she only could have enough time to practise with a drum kit.
In this drumming battle clip from Buono!s 2nd FC DVD Erika beats Momo 6-0 but I guess Momo was trying too hard and she sure can drum much better than this clip shows.
Besides guitar and drums Momo has also shown us her piano playing skills. Conclusion is that if Momo would take these instruments seriously, let’s say for example guitar, she could be a decent guitarist in the future. Ganbatte Kudasai Momo!
It’s always enjoyable to watch Momo on stage in action. Of course all Berryz Kobo girls are great entertainers and do their job in concerts as well as they can but many times it seems that Momo is going well over that so-called 100 % effort. Stage is her second home. She gives all of her in front of the audience. And when growd responds, cheers and shouts her name, waves those pink glow sticks, then Momo is living her life. She’s on fire. Tha’t more than 100 %. Momo needs this attention. It’s like vital food for her. And you can clearly see how much Momo enjoys this interaction between her and her fans.
Dschinghis Khan from Berryz Kobo Concert Tour 2009 Spring:
What has always amazed me is the fact that Momo somehow is quite clumsy but when she enters to the stage she leaves her clumsyness outside the concert hall. She does not falter there. She does not fall off the stage or scene constructions during concerts although she is dancing and running there like crazy.
When you watch Momo dancing you keep wondering how on earth that girl manages to keep her energy levels so high throughout the concerts. I always remember Momo’s early days in BK when she almost fainted not once but many times when kids were practicing dance choreographies. Momo was there on her knees and crying. And today she is like an iron woman. What a change.
In Japan “Hinamatsuri”, Doll’s Festival, is held on March 3rd. It’s a traditional day to pray for young girl’s growth and happiness. It is also called “Momo no sekku”, Peach Festival, because of the peach blossom season. I guess it’s not coincidence how and why Momo got her first name.
For us March 3rd is even more important day because it’s Berryz Kobo’s Anniversary day. Now Berries are celebrating their 6th Anniversary. It was March 3rd 2004 when group’s first single “Anata Nashi de wa Ikite Yukenai” was reeased and the rest is history. And now we look back at that history by going through the years with this official photo collection. So many lovely photos and so many sweet memories.

There are several things those are kind of trademarks for Momo. Things which make Momo to be Momo. Helium voice is one of them of course. But there was one special feature I noticed quite early as I saw videos and pictures of Momo.
It was her pinky fingers. Those both always standing rigid regardless what she is doing with her hands. For example if you see Momo holding microphone without stiff little finger that is more than rare occurrence. But as we know, there are also those rare times when she bends even those little ones. Keeps me wondering what it is actually with her pinkies. Something to do with nervous system and the cooperation of finger muscles?
As Momo’s rebellious pinkies are so visible they are many times an easy target for astonishment and jokes. Here’s a short clip where Rii is not happy with Momo’s pinkie. Joke it is of course.
And in this other clip Inaba Atsuko is asking Momo about her pinky fingers. Clip has also some other talking plus Momo singing Ayaya’s “Watarasebashi”.
